AN ENVISIONED GLOBAL GRANT FOR A MOBILE EYE TESTING UNIT Handover of Mobile Eye Testing Bus Graeme Woolacott - for everything there is a beginning and the beginning of this project I am going to talk upon was just a little bit different, because of the fact that Jill and I were in Bali in May last year at the combined District 3420 with D3310 Singapore. DGE Dyah of D3420 asked if we could assist with a Global Grant seeing that we had been involved with 3 others with the RC of Semarang Kunthi. I asked what and how much, it was to be a mobile eye testing unit and the cost would be about US$58,000.00 |

The wicking beds at Waverley Meadows Primary School
The wicking beds at Waverley Meadows Primary School were donated so that their school garden would be easier to maintain and keep alive over the summer months. The garden is a big part of the school program and integrated into the school curriculum in many ways. By assisting with more robust watering less volunteers and school staff time are needed to keep the garden alive making it more secure and sustainable. |
The Mayor of Monash Charity Golf Day - 2026The Combined Rotary Clubs of Monash have proudly conducted the annual Mayor of Monash Golf Day for the past 40 years. Over this time in excess of $1,000,000 has been raised and dispersed to needy groups within the local community. Provide new appliances and refresh the space of the Neighbourhood House kitchen. The space is used for social groups, education groups and to provide food relief for economically disadvantage people.  |
Cerebral Palsy Early Intervention for Poor Children Jan 2026
Early intervention can be life-changing for children with disabilities, especially those with physical challenges such as cerebral palsy. Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed-CRP program supports children with cerebral palsy caused by brain injury before or shortly after birth. The most common cause of reduced eye function in children is 'refractive error' which includes moderate to high astigma, moderate to high myopia, and anisometropia. From data compiled by the Data and Information Center (Pusdatin) of the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) taken from the body According to WHO world health, Indonesia is included in the five countries with the largest population experiencing visual impairment. Indonesia is in fourth place after China, India and Pakistan. Sadly, 400 out of 1,000 Indonesian children apparently have eye problems or premature refractive errors. The use of gadgets is suspected to be the cause of increasing problems with visual impairment in children. |

Christmas in July - Fellowship Dinner
  A Magical Christmas in July!   What a fantastic time we had celebrating  Christmas in July  at our recent Fun & Fellowship meeting! While it may be mid-year, the festive spirit was in full swing with laughter, music and plenty of cheer.   A highlight of the day was our Festive Hat Competition โ and what a display it was! Congratulations to all who took part and added an extra sprinkle fun to the celebration with Christmassy tablecloths, candles, crackers and Christmas serviettes with Roast Dinner & Plum Pudding served!Events like this remind us of the power of community โ coming together to celebrate, smile, and make memories no matter the season. Thank you Judy Hasnat, Abul Hasnat, Andrew & Rosemary Goddard for organising this fun & fellowship event and everyone who joined us to make Christmas in July such a heart warming success!

Rotary at the Start of the United Nations
During World War II, Rotary informed and educated members about the formation of the United Nations and the importance of planning for peace. Materials such as the booklet โFrom Here On!โ and articles in The Rotarian helped members understand the UN before it was formally established and follow its work after its charter. Many countries were fighting the war when the term โUnited Nationsโ was first used officially in the 1942 โDeclaration by United Nations.โ The 26 nations that signed it pledged to uphold the ideals expressed by the United States and the United Kingdom the previous year of the common principles โon which they based their hopes for a better future for the world.โ

History of Women in RotaryWomen are active participants in Rotary, serving their communities in increasing numbers and serving in leadership positions in Rotary. The 1989 Council on Legislation vote to admit women into Rotary clubs worldwide remains a watershed moment in the history of Rotary. โMy fellow delegates, I would like to remind you that the world of 1989 is very different to the world of 1905. I sincerely believe that Rotary has to adapt itself to a changing world,โ said Frank J. Devlyn, who would go on to become RI president in 2000-01. The vote followed the decades-long efforts of men and women from all over the Rotary world to allow the admission of women into Rotary clubs, and several close votes at previous Council meetings.

First Club in Philippines Opens Door to Rotary in Asia
The club would be the only one in the country for more than 12 years. Eventually, Manila club members organized Rotary clubs in the Philippine cities of Cebu (1932) and Iloilo (1933). Iloilo club members then started a club in Bacolod (1937), and Rotary continued to expand across the country. |
An estimated 500 million people worldwide became infected. Many cities closed theaters and cinemas, and placed restrictions on public gatherings. Rotary clubs adjusted their activities while also helping the sick.
Rotary and the United Nations have a shared history of working toward peace and addressing humanitarian issues around the world.
Every hero has an origin story. โI was 10 years old when the entire journey started,โ explains Binish Desai. It began with a cartoon called Captain Planet, an animated TV series from the 1990s about an environmentalist with superpowers. Desai can still recite the showโs refrain: Captain Planet, heโs our hero / Gonna take pollution down to zero! โThat tagline stuck in my mind,โ he says. โI wanted to do something to help Captain Planet.โ
In early 1919, Rotarian Roger Pinneo of Seattle, Washington, USA, traveled to the Philippines to try to organize a Rotary club in Manila. Leon J. Lambert, a Manila business leader helped Pinneo establish the club. Several months later, on 1 June 1919, the Rotary Club of Manila was chartered and became the first Rotary club in Asia.
