This program delivers children’s books to the mothers of new babies, born at Waverley Private Hospital during September each year.
The program celebrating Rotary’s Literacy Month in September has been in place for the last 18 years. President Jill Woolacott inaugurated “Books for Babies” at our Club in 2007/8. Since the program’s inception about seventy books annually are donated to new Mums. An unexpected gift from a stranger is always a surprize and a rewarding experience for the giver. Author Mem Fox’s Board Book ‘Ten Little Fingers And Ten Little Toes’ has been the preferred book for many years. The book is illustrated by Helen Oxenbury. The illustrations of babies on each page are from a different part of the world aligning with Rotary’s internationality and diversity.
